Angry Seas

Yesterday we took mom to her doctor appointment then took her to lunch, picked up her RX and took her home.  Debbie and I went to the Golden Nugget for the afternoon after numerous wrong turns (unusual for us).  We didn't do well there so Atlantic City has gotten the last of our funds for this trip.  Somehow we got turned around coming home too but only a few blocks before we realized the error of our ways.  It got very chilly very fast last night and neither of us were feeling very chipper.

We were both coughing when we got up this morning..we alternate sleeping on the sofa bed and Debbie was on it last night.  We both had some work to do this morning and after getting the necessary things done we left with our trusty shopping list to head to Walmart.  It had rained some last night but not since we have been up today but the wind is brutal.  It was blowing the car all over the place and apparently there is a tornado watch for the area which is unusual for here so all the Walmart employees were freaked out.  Since it is National Cheeseburger Day we had lunch at 5 Guys and I mom said to bring her one so we did.  She had company when we got there so we met her friends and headed home to try to make it before the storm hits.  We drove to the boardwalk to go look at the ocean today and it was looking very angry.  The pictures do not convey how ominous it was out there and the wind is unbelievable.  You can see the spray from the ocean in the picture I took looking down the boardwalk and then when we got to our turn to the parking area of the condo there was the big trash can from across the street at the Ocean Drive had blown into the middle of Landis which is the main street through town.  By the time we parked the police had blocked traffic and moved it then we saw him use his hand sanitizer...smart guy!  Debbie is at the beauty shop at the corner getting her hair cut and I just finished getting my office work done and though I would catch you up.  More later if we keep power!

  1. Hey Cheryl. You and your Mom look good. We had the same kind of weather here today and I picked up branches three times today in between rain squalls. More to Coe tomorrow morning. It seems to have calmed down now so hopefully the tornado threat is over. I like Five Guys too but think it is UN American that they don't have milkshakes. Have a great Weds

  2. Hi Dave. She had two good days in a row. Tomorrow Debbie and I will grocery shop for her tomorrow morning and then take her to get her hair done. If she is still doing ok we will take her to lunch. I didn't know that 5 Guys didn't have milkshakes. Mom loved her burger too. You and Sue have a safe trip.

  3. Heard there were some tornado watches over there on the coast - hope you stay safe and warm. I've been practicing staying out of casinos as well - I'm proud that I can 'just say no' but I do miss playing cards! Have fun sleeping on the sofa tonight!!!!!

  4. That is a great pic of you and grand mom. Lindsay and I were looking at it and I told her that's what we would look like in 50 years. She didn't know if she should laugh or not lol. I'm glad grand mom is enjoying yalls visit. It rained here Monday and Tuesday but now it is finally fall like, cool in the morning and around 80 in the afternoon, beautiful! I took Fletcher to the do it yourself dog wash today, he was pissed but I thought the place was really cool! U know we can't do 5guys cause they use peanut oil :-(

  5. I am just now watching the entire last year's worth of the series Fringe on my DVR. I also am reading a series of historical novels, one after the other, having waited for the last to be published before ever beginning the first. Lacking patience, I don't like to read bits and pieces at a time but rather enjoy the flow of a storyline without stops and starts.

Thusly, today I sat down to read the entirety (well, almost) of A Trip to New Jersey. Such joy and laughter there was amongst the donuts in the parking lot. The mysticism of Foamhenge and the pathos of the illnesses and scrapple; the palpable fear in the visit to Fort Knox with the flying artillery; and hunger, oh the hunger resulting from the Philly cheese steaks and Amish treats...all contributed to a rousing adventure culminating at the "Jersey Shore." And National Cheeseburger Day!!! How, oh how, could I have missed out on such an event? Our local Five Guys obviously failed in their ability to get the word out that our National Treasure--the Cheeseburger--was being honored.

I must give the authoress her kudos in her telling of their adventures and a kudo also to the bravery of DeDe for allowing the scrapple--what I consider an American version of haggis--on her plate. I do have one question though: Where was the chipped beef?
